Yankees Beat Twins 6-2: Will Warren Dominates, Four Solo Home Runs Power Victory
August 11, 2025 - The New York Yankees hit four solo home runs and received a career-best performance from Will Warren in a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night.
Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, Ben Rice, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each connected for solo shots, providing all the offensive support Warren needed for his dominant outing.
Warren Delivers Career Performance
Warren turned in the best start of his young career, allowing just three hits and two runs over 6⅔ innings while striking out seven without issuing a walk. The right-hander's only real mistakes came on three pitches that resulted in solo home runs, but his overall command and stuff were impressive throughout the night.
By league-average starter standards (6 innings, 4-6 hits, 3-4 earned runs, 1-2 walks, 6 strikeouts), Warren's performance was well above average. His ability to attack the strike zone consistently and limit baserunners kept the Twins' offense in check for most of the evening.
Yankees' Four-Homer Attack
The Yankees' power display began early and continued throughout the game. Each home run came at crucial moments, building and maintaining momentum against Twins starter Zebby Matthews.
Matthews lasted 5⅔ innings, allowing three of the four home runs while striking out nine and walking none. Despite the three solo shots, Matthews showed solid stuff and command, giving up just six hits overall. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was excellent, but the Yankees made him pay for mistakes in the strike zone.
Twins' Limited Offense
Minnesota managed just three hits against Warren and the Yankees bullpen. Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach provided the Twins' only offense with solo home runs - Buxton's 18th of the season and Larnach's 16th.
No Twins player recorded multiple hits, and the team struggled to generate any sustained rallies against Yankees pitching. The lack of baserunners limited Minnesota's ability to capitalize on their two home runs.
Looking Ahead
The loss dropped Minnesota to 56-62 on the season, while New York improved to 63-56. The series continues Tuesday at Yankee Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM ET on MLB Network.
Carlos Rodón (11-7, 3.35 ERA) is expected to start for the Yankees, while the Twins are planning to use a bullpen game approach. Rodón has been one of New York's most consistent starters this season and will look to help the Yankees take the series.
The Yankees' four-homer performance showcased their offensive depth and ability to capitalize on mistakes, while Warren's emergence gives them another reliable starting option as they push toward the playoffs.
